Good to know

What these numbers are, and where they stop.

We put real work into the figures on this site. So you know exactly what you're looking at, here's the plain version — what they are, what they're not, and when it's worth getting a proper second opinion.

They're estimates, not guarantees

Every figure here is built from real, current sources: ONS rents, the HMRC income-tax bands and National Insurance rates, TfL fares, and open council data. We keep them updated when the numbers move, and we show our working so nothing is a mystery.

But an estimate is still an estimate. Your tax code, your landlord, your habits and a dozen small things will nudge the real number up or down. Use ours as a realistic starting point, then check the specifics for your own case before you commit to anything big.

Information to plan with, not financial advice

We're sharing what we've learned from making the move ourselves and reading the official rules closely — not regulated financial, tax, legal or immigration advice. We're not your accountant, mortgage adviser or solicitor, and we can't see the full picture of your situation.

Some decisions really deserve a proper expert: a mortgage, a visa, a big tax question, a pension. For those, talk to a qualified adviser who can look at your exact circumstances. That's not us being cautious for the sake of it — it's genuinely the better call when real money is on the line.

The guides work the same way

The articles come from the same place: things we worked out the hard way, backed by the official sources. They're general guidance to help you get your bearings, not personal advice for your situation.

Where it really counts, the official sources have the final word — gov.uk, HMRC, your council, your visa caseworker. We link to them so you can check the detail that applies to you.

If a number looks off

Tell us — we'd genuinely like to know. People plan real moves around these tools, so we keep them current, and a heads-up when something drifts helps everyone who comes along next.
